Client Directed Home Care invoicing program (CdhcI)

Client-Directed Home Care Invoicing (CDHCI) is a program introduced by Alberta Health Services (AHS) to support seniors in receiving home care. This program enables seniors to choose their preferred service provider for essential services such as personal care, housekeeping, meal preparation, and respite care. 

For families who are already receiving funding through the Self-Directed Care program or other community-based home care options in Alberta, the CDHCI provides simplified access to care with the added benefit of removing the administrative tasks involved in managing home care.

What are the benefits of CDHC?

  • Direct Billing - Qualified Home Care provider will handle billing directly with Alberta Blue Cross, covering most of your care expenses through the program.


  • No More Administrative Hassles - For families currently managing their own caregivers—handling everything from hiring and training to payroll and tax compliance—the CDHCI program removes the administrative burden, allowing them to focus on the care of their loved ones.


  • Select the Right Provider  -  With CDHCI, you're empowered to select your preferred home care provider, as long as they’re approved by Alberta Blue Cross. This flexibility allows you to choose a provider based on quality and fit, rather than geographic location.

How to Become Eligible for Client Directed Home Care Services?

Client-Directed Home Care Invoicing (CDHCI) is available to Albertans of all ages who meet the qualifying criteria established by Alberta Health Services (AHS).


To qualify for the program, you must meet the following requirements:


1. Residency: You must be a resident of Alberta.


2. Valid Health Care Card: You must have an active Alberta Health Care card.


3. Ability to Safely Live at Home: You must be able to reside safely in your home with the support of home care services.


4. AHS Determination: You must be assessed by an AHS case manager and determined to require home care services.


If you have not yet applied for the CDHCI program, you can request an assessment by calling Alberta Health Services at 811. If you are already receiving home care through another AHS program, contact your case manager to discuss your eligibility for CDHCI.
